Music Production -

When I first started working on the music for out Opening title sequence, I wanted it to be a smooth jazz track. I wanted it to include up-beat and major elements that would cause juxtaposition with the dark, foreboding atmosphere created by the actual video shots.

I first found a jazz bass loop on GarageBand that I liked and worked researched the key and tempo of the loop.

I then composed a short three note riff on the piano to compliment and develop the bass line. I did this by identifying the bass line's key and experimenting/improvising tunes in that scale whilst I listened to the bass.

Then I recorded a repeated piano chord that complimented the previous melody.

Lastly, I added a jazz drum loop sourced from GarageBand to reinforce the rhythm of the track and cement the jazz theme.

Production Photos of Editing

Production process - OTS

I sat with Emily while she edited to document the process and so that I could look over shots to ensure she hadn't missed anything and give a second opinion on transitions we was experimenting with.

She stared by using the colour correction tool, removing all colour in the clips except red hues. This tool in Final Cut Pro is a dropper selection tool that you can use to edit the saturation, exposure, and colour of a shot.

Some background of the shots had other items and areas where the wall behind the backdrop was visible or someone operating props was in shot. Emily edited this out by using crop and distortion tools in Final Cut Pro.

Also by using match colour, she was able to monitor colour correction and cropping so that the shot transitions are smooth and colour is consistent within the different shots.
